But, by avoiding going out in the worst winter weather, you could be avoiding a potentially dangerous car accident. Watch the weather. Listen to the news. And decide whether your car trip can wait. It could save you.

Slow down

Yes, we know, your vehicle has all-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes. But physics still apply. It takes time and space to stop and maneuver and the fact is, speed can kill. So, slow down in the ice and snow.

Clean your car

This one should go without saying but we’ve seen more than a few people who scrape a tiny hole off their windshield and attempt to drive. Don’t be that person. If you aren’t lucky enough to have covered parking, take the time to adequately clear your vehicle of ice and snow before heading out. Visibility is key and can save you.

Don’t tailgate

We know you can’t control the person behind you – or even in front of you – but you can control your vehicle. And by staying far enough behind the person in front of you, you buy yourself the space – and time – to stop and maneuver should he or she spin out or slide, losing control.
