Distracted Driving: How to talk to your Ohio teen driver
September 21, 2026It’s almost that time of year: Snow and slush can lead to more slip and fall injuries. While these types of accidents can happen any time, they do tend to increase in the colder months — including on the job. But if you are injured after slipping, tripping or falling at work, you may ask yourself: Will Ohio workers’ compensation cover my injury?
Like most questions of Ohio Workers’ compensation, the answer is … maybe.
Ohio workers’ compensation generally provides benefits for employees who are hurt or sickened while on the job. That can include injuries caused by a workplace slip or fall.
So, when would slip and fall injuries be covered?
The circumstances surrounding your accident matter. For example, you may have a workers’ compensation claim if you slip on a wet floor while performing your job duties, trip over an object in your workplace or fall from a ladder while working.
Importantly, you do not necessarily have to be performing your primary job duties at the exact moment of the accident. Depending on the circumstances, injuries that happen while on the property of your employer, performing work-related tasks or engaging in activities connected to your employment may qualify for workers’ compensation benefits.
However, not every injury that happens at a workplace is automatically covered. Issues such as where the accident occurred, what you were doing at the time and whether the injury was work-related can affect your claim.
If your claim is approved, you may be entitled to benefits. Depending on the nature and severity of your injury, additional benefits may also be available for lost wages, temporary disability or permanent impairment.
Common slip-and-fall injuries include broken bones, back injuries, sprains, strains, head injuries and other conditions that can require significant medical care and time away from work.
If you are hurt in a slip and fall at work, the first thing you need to do is report the accident to your employer as soon as possible and seek appropriate medical attention. Be sure to explain to your medical provider that the injury occurred at work and provide accurate information about how the accident happened. Keep copies of medical records, accident reports and other documentation related to your injury.
If your workers’ compensation claim is denied or you are unsure whether your injury qualifies, speaking with an experienced Ohio workers’ compensation attorney can help you understand your rights and potential options.
A workplace slip and fall can have lasting consequences. Taking the right steps early can help protect your ability to pursue the workers’ compensation benefits!
