Hurt in a car crash? Three reasons you need a personal injury attorney!
February 10, 2020Legal documents you might need in case of an emergency
April 8, 2020You were hurt at work and then you filed a Social Security disability benefits claim.
Now what?
If you are like most people, you have never filed a Social Security disability benefits claim before and you may not know what to expect.
That’s OK!
You might also be wondering if your claim will be approved.
The reality is, the Social Security Administration denies more than 70% of initial claims for disability benefits. And if you don’t know how to navigate the system, you could have your claim denied, too.
But there are things you can do to improve your odds. Here are three ways to increase your odds of winning your Social Security disability benefits claim. Read on:
Make sure Social Security receives accurate records
One of the main reasons claims are denied are inaccurate and outdated records. When you file your claim, make sure you give Social Security all the names, addresses and phone numbers of your treatment providers and be clear on the dates you were treated by each doctor. Triple check it!
If the Social Security Administration doesn’t get complete, accurate records, they will deny your claim.
Make sure you communicate with your medical provider about your Social Security Disability claim
Just because your doctor says you have an injury or diagnosis doesn’t mean you can’t work. Your doctor needs to report limitations you have as a result of your injury/diagnosis so that Social Security can decide whether you are unable to work due to those limitations. That means, you need to make sure he or she gives a written opinion about your limitations or a report indicating your restrictions or limitations. Having your doctor fill out a questionnaire that is geared towards Social Security’s evaluation of disability can be very helpful.
And have your doctor be specific! Just stating you can’t work is rarely good enough.
